This dairy-free frosting tastes a lot like cream cheese frosting, but it has no cream cheese in it. It is a not too sweet, creamy frosting with a bit of a tang.
I found this frosting recipe posted with a carrot cake recipe. I've been looking for a dairy-free substitute for cream cheese frosting. There are several recipes that include dairy-free cream cheese, but I haven't found dairy-free cream cheese available near me. So, I was going to make a buttercream frosting using vegan butter instead of butter and almondmilk instead of milk, but I found this recipe! Yum! Kudos to Ali of Gimme Some Oven for coming up with this delicious dairy-free frosting recipe!
This recipe is very similar to a buttercream frosting. It uses vegan butter and almondmilk in place of shortening, butter and milk. It includes apple cider vinegar and lemon juice to give it a bit of a tang similar to what you would taste with a cream cheese frosting.
If you aren't concerned about being dairy-free and don't have cream cheese on hand, this recipe would be a great substitute for cream cheese frosting, and you could use butter or margarine and milk. Adding the lemon juice and apple cider vinegar gives the recipe the tang that a cream cheese frosting gives you.
This dairy-free frosting would be good to use with any cake that you would use a cream cheese frosting or a buttercream frosting.
I hope you enjoy the Dairy-Free Cream Cheese Frosting!
