Hi and welcome! I'm Colleen, and this website is my way of documenting my kitchen adventures. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. It's a good thing that my husband, Jeff, doesn't mind my experimenting. He's my Chief Taster! I'd like to improve my cooking skills, and get better at plating and presenting. Through this website, I'll document my journey as I work on those goals. I hope that the recipes and discoveries that I share will be helpful to you, too!
I love to bake, but don't do it as often as I'd like. I love kneading bread and enjoying the warm, fresh-baked bread. I usually make my great-grandmothers sweet rolls at holiday dinners. My husband likes chocolate chip cookies, so I bake those for him several times a year. When my Dad was still with us, I would bake him a variety of cookies for his birthday, Father's Day and Christmas. Baking the variety of cookies was a lot of fun for me.
I enjoy canning, too. I love going into my pantry and seeing the canned foods! I don't can as much as I used to, but it is still one of my favorite things to do. I used to grow a lot of tomatoes and some other vegetables, but the critters eat my garden, so the last several years I have bought the produce I can from local farmers. I want to do container gardening on my deck so I can grow my own tomatoes and some other vegetables.
My career has been in IT. I started my career doing software development, then moved into testing and test management. The last few years, I was doing automated testing and some performance testing. I do enjoy the IT work, but the desire to improve my cooking skills is calling me now.
Another passion of mine is crocheting. Most of my crochet projects are afghans for Project Linus. My goal is to donate 1,000 afghans. I'm a long way from that goal, but I'm working on it! I opened a store on Etsy, Blizard in Crafts, where I sell a few of my handmade crocheted items.
I also enjoy photography and researching my genealogy. There just isn't enough time in the day to do all of the things I'd like to do!
Thanks for visiting!
